Paulino.<br/><br/>The study was conducted from July 20 I 7 to April 2018 to develop a solar powered aeroponic system with automatic monitoring and cycle timer. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1) design and construct a solar powered aeroponic system with automatic monitoring of the quality of the nutrient medium and a cycle timer for automatic spraying schedule; 2) evaluate the functionality of the system based on charging and discharging time of the battery which supplies power to the nutrient pump, accurate monitoring of the temperature of the nutrient medium, level and pH, and growth parameters of plants including height and root length as indicators of the system functionality of the system; and 3) conduct an economic analysis of the aeroponics system. The aeroponics system was constructed with an automatic monitoring of the temperature, pH and volume of the nutrient medium in the reservoir. A solar PV system was used to generate electricity to supply the nutrient pump. The nutrient pump forces the water from the reservoir to the micro sprayers in the lateral lines of the PVC pipe network which sprays water into the roots of the plants. The results of the evaluation revealed that the solar-powered aeroponics system with automatic monitoring and cycle timer is feasible and reliable. The power generation of the solar PV system is sufficient for the sustainable operation of the aeroponics system.
