<a href="DE JESUS, RAVEN E., PANGILINAN, DARYLL B. CAPACITIVE DISCHARGE SPOT WELDING MACHINE FOR LITHIUM-ION BATTERY TABS. Undergraduate Design Project. Department of Engineering. Cavite State University-Cavite College of Arts and Trades Campus, Rosario, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Engr. John Robert G. Briones, Technical Critic: Mr. Jonard A. Almuestro.

The study was conducted from December 2018 to May 2019 to develop a capacitive discharge spot welding that uses a super capacitor bank for better of battery packs that can give quick energy release with high quality of contact weld. Specifically, it aims to (a) design and construct a capacitive discharge spot welding machine for lithium ion battery tab, (b) test and evaluate the performance of the CD spot welding machine and ( c) assess the performance of the CD spot welding machine by means of survey to be evaluated by the students with knowledge about welding process. The prototype was entitled "Capacitive Discharge Spot-Welding Machine for Lithium-Ion Battery Tabs". It is a spot-welding machine which uses power from the super-capacitor bank. The capacitor bank is charged up by the power supply through the converter. The prototype uses LCD for the display of the pulse length and seven-segment display for monitoring the charging status of the capacitor. It is installed with an Arduino UNO R3 which performs the program uploaded to it that cuts the current flowing through the welding probe when the user presses the foot pedal switch.

Four 3.7volts batteries were used to test and evaluate its performance before and after welding. To measure the voltage after welding, these batteries were connected in parallel to attain the same voltage of a single battery. Test results revealed that voltages across each battery were nearly equal before and after welding. This proves that the performance of the batteries is not degrading when these were welded.
