<a href="MACABANTE, NANETH A., ORTICIO, MERMIN P., PACUMIO, ROSE-ANNE H., Applied Research IV (Science Education Laboratory High School), Cavite State University, Rosario, Cavite, 2009. "Calf Skin as Gelatin Raw Material in the Manufacture of Pharmaceutical Capsules".. Adviser: Mrs. Caridad S. Merced.

The study entitled "Calf Skin as Gelatin Raw Material in the Manufacture of Pharmaceutical Capsules" was conducted at 043 Ave Maria St. Rosario, Cavite and at the Biology Room of Cavite State University from November 2008 to January 2009. This study was conducted to 1) utilize the calf skin in the production of gelatin, 2) use the extracted gelatin for the manufacture of pharmaceutical capsules, and 3) determined if there is a significant difference between the treatments in terms of color, odor, solubility, consistency and general acceptability

There were six phases followed in making he capsules Phase 1- Gathering of Raw Materials, Chemicals and Tools, Phase II- Production of Gelatin from Calf Skin, Phase III- Preparation of the Capsules, Phase IV- Labeling of the Treatments, Phase V- Sensory Evaluation and Phase VI- Solubility Test

There were four treatments prepared The first treatment (T) used 10 g of calf skin gelatin with every 10 ml of water The second treatment (T₂) consists of 10 g of calf skin gelatin with every 15ml of water The third treatment (T1) used 10 g of calf skin gelatin with every 20 ml of water The last treatment (Ta) used 10g of calf skin gelatin with every 25 ml of water. Each treatment was replicated three times.

In general, T2, which used 10 g of calf skin with every 10 ml of water, gave the best calf-skin gelatin water concentration among the four treatments The authors recommend the following

1.) To use of calf skin as gelatin raw materials in the manufacture of pharmaceutical capsule,

2) This study also recommends using the gelatin-water concentration (10 g15 mL) in the preparation of pharmaceutical capsules from the calf skin gelatin,

3.) Further study can also conduct to improve the capsules to be prepared, in particular studies that would determine if the capsule would produce side effects when taken by humans,

4) The authors also recommend the use of capsules as raw materials in making baby nipple, for infant bottles because one of the ingredient of a rubber baby nipple is gelatin, and

5.) Studies can be made to test if calf skin can be a device for birth control because one of the ingredients of birth control devices is gelatin and the said produced gelatin is an organic one.
