Botany is the scientific study of plants that deals with plant life and development. It is a part of biology and is also known as Plant Biology. Botany is a broad term for great variety of scientific disciplines that study plants. Some of the disciplines are structure, organization, physiology, development, metabolism, genetics, diseases, to name a few. It is one of the ancient sciences in the world, with thousands of years old research and exploration illustrated documents. Nowadays, the extent of botany has expanded to study 550000 species and beyond. The botanical research has manifold applications including supply of foods, medicines, building materials, and other plant products.
