General Biology 1 and 2 is a book series designed for Filipino students taking biology course in the STEM strand of their senior high school. Learning competencies, content standard and performance standard provided by the Department of Education are listed in every chapter opener as key objectives to direct the student's learning process.

Using an exploratory approach to the world of life, each chapter opens with a "Let's investigate" section that provides a laboratory activity or classroom activity to introduce the unit. This enforces the experiential and exploratory learning approach of this book.

This is followed by "Let's Learn" that presents the main topics and discussion. Students are guided with easy-to-understand explanations, excellent illustrations and concept organizers to aid in the learning process. Review questions and knowledge check is incorporated in the discussion sections of the book.

This is then followed by "Let's Review" that summarizes the discussion in bullets or in a graphic organizer form.

To extend the learning, we have added the "Let's explore" section which provides additional learning activity or experiment that will allow the students to deepen their understanding of the concepts presented.

Also included in the book are the careers in Biology and achievements of Filipino scientists and researchers under the "Scientist in Action" part. This is to highlight the potential career that our Filipino learners can pursue; may it be a preparation for further studies in the University or to get an Industry-related job in Biological Sciences.

To show that learning Biology can also be all fun and games, "Science is Fun!" include learning activities or quiz that highlight reinforces the concept in a fun manner.
