Since there is a lot of classification of hydro scale, this study focused on designing a pico-hydropower. Hydropower facilities are categorized based on their ability to generate energy. The quantity of civil infrastructure work involved during the construction determines the fundamental difference between the six various size ranges of hydropower plants. Smaller hydropower schemes use the difference in altitude, tiny flows or the decrease in the pipes from water infrastructure to create power for small towns. On the other hand, major facility producing a large amount of electricity includes damming huge rivers and installing powerhouses.

Pico-hydropower generator is a device that converts the mechanical energy from the rotating breastshot waterwheel into electrical energy using a generator. The generator used in this study was the axial flux generator which is mostly use in wind energy application.l The major reason why the researchers used the axial flux because it has only few losses as a result of its high flux density caused by its air gap. The main objective of this study was to produce at least 1kW of power to meet the standard qualification of designing a pico-hydropower. The researchers decided to conduct this study for the to help the resident residing in barangay Tres Crueses, Tanza, Cavite to produce clean and free electricity from their irrigation system.

Float method was used by the researchers for them to determine the stream flow discharge of the irrigation system. Full bridge rectifier was also used in the system to convert the AC to Dc so that the storage cell will be able to charge. The major components of this prototype are axial flux generator, breastshot waterwheel, and electrical components such as a battery, charge controller, and watt meter. During the testing and implementation of the study, the axial flux generator is capable of producing 21.6 watts of power. However, when it is installed through the site, the generator produces 0.054 watts. The power produced by the prototype depends on the stream flow discharges of water, but the value of power still needs to be improved.
